NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX
1154 AM CDT THU JUL  3 1986
 
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING
EFFECTIVE UNTIL  400 PM CDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES:
 
IN NORTHWEST TEXAS
          ..KING

AT 1150 AM CDT THE KING COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE REPORTED THAT MORE
THAN 5 INCHES OF RAIN HAD FALLEN IN GUTHRIE DURING THE MORNING..AND
RAIN CONTINUED TO FALL. THE SHERIFF'S OFFIC3E ALSO REPORTED THAT
HIGHWAY 83 WAS CLOSED NORTH OF GUTHRIE DUE TO HIGH WATER. ALSO A
COOPERATIVE OBSERVER NEAR GUTHRIE REPORTED HEAVY RAIN IN PROGRESS
AT 1155 AM CDT WITH RAINFALL TOTALLING 6.25 INCHES SINCE 700 AM CDT.
RADAR AND SATELLITE DATA INDICATED STRONG THUNDERSTORMS OVER KING
COUNTY MOVING VERY SLOWLY. THE POTENTIAL FOR ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAIN
WILL CONTINUE THROUGH MUCH OF THE AFTERNOON.
DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY.  THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO
CROSS SAFELY.  VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE
ABANDONED QUICKLY.  MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
 
MOST DEATHS IN FLASH FLOODING OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES, DIPS, OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM, EVEN A SMALL ONE,
ON FOOT.
