NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILMINGTON NC 650 PM EDT SAT JUN 28 1986 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 745 PM EDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES OF NORTH CAROLINA...DUPLIN AT 650 PM LARGE HAIL WAS REPORTED BY THE PUBLIC 5 MILES NORTH OF KENANSVILLE IN DUPLIN COUNTY IN THE SOUTHERN COASTAL PLAINS OF NORTH CAROLINA. THIS THUNDERSTORM WILL LIKELY CAUSE DAMAGING WINDS..LARGE HAIL..FREQUENT DANGEROUS LIGHTNING AND LOCAL FLOODING. SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY. THIS THUNDERSTORM WAS MOVING EAST AT 20 MILES AN HOUR. AT 625 THIS EVENING VERY HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS COVERED MOST OF A 50 MILE WIDE AREA FROM THE COAST TO THE PIEDMONT. THE AREA EXTENDED SOUTH OF A LINE FROM NEAR ELIZABETH CITY IN THE NORTHERN COASTAL AREA TO EASTERN MONTGOMERY COUNTY IN THE SOUTHERN PIEDMONT OF THE STATE. THE HEAVIEST THUNDERSTORMS IN THIS AREA WERE NEAR LILLINGTON IN HARNETT COUNTY...JUST NORTHWEST OF FAYETTEVILLE IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY..AND NEAR KINSTON IN LENOIR COUNTY.
