SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT AND RADAR SUMMARY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE KANSAS CITY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT MO 130 AM CDT FRI OCT 3 1986 ...A TORNADO WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR A LARGE PORTION OF CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST MISSOURI UNTIL 7AM... ...FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR THE NORTHWEST ONE HALF OF MISSOURI AND FOR EAST KANSAS TONIGHT AND FRIDAY MORNING...INCLUDING KANSAS CITY AND ST JOSEPH... AT 130 AM...A LARGE AREA OF RAIN AND SCATTERED STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WAS OVER EASTCENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST KANSAS AND FROM SOUTHWEST AND WESTCENTRAL INTO CENTRAL MISSOURI. THE STRONGEST THUNDERSTORMS WERE 75 TO 100 MILES SOUTH OF KANSAS CITY. STRONG STORMS CONTAINING VERY HEAVY RAIN...AND POSSIBLY STRONG GUSTY WINDS...WILL MOVE ACROSS LINN COUNTY KANSAS BETWEEN 130AM AND 2AM AND MOVE INTO BATES COUNTY MISSOURI BETWEEN 2AM AND 230 AM. THE HEAVY RAINS MAY PRODUCE FLOODING IN LOW LYING AREAS. THE RAIN ACROSS THE KANSAS CITY AREA WAS MOSTLY LIGHT...WITH THE HEAVIER PRECIPITATION SOME 50 MILES TO THE SOUTH AND SOUTHEAST OF KANSAS CITY. THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WERE MOVING NORTHEAST AT 30 TO 35 MILES AN HOUR.
