000 TTAA00 KDSM 122137 SVRDSM IAC059-122215- BULLETIN - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DES MOINES IA 435 PM CDT MON MAY 12 1986 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 515 PM CDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTY OF NORTHWEST IOWA...DICKINSON RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM IN NORTHEAST OSCEOLA COUNTY OF NORTHWEST IOWA. THIS STORM WAS MOVING EAST AROUND 15 MILES AN HOUR AND ALSO DEVELOPING TO THE SOUTH. PERSONS IN ALL OF DICKINSON COUNTY..ESPECIALLY THOSE IN THE GREAT LAKES AREA SHOULD BE ON THE ALERT FOR POSSIBLE SEVERE WEATHER AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION. THIS STORM COULD PRODUCE LARGE HAIL..STRONG WINDS..AND BRIEF HEAVY RAINS. 3/4 TO 11/2 INCH HAIL OCCURRED WITH THESE STORMS ALONG THE IOWA..MINNESOTA BORDER DURING THE PAST HALF HOUR. REMEMBER..A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAN PRODUCE DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH..LARGE HAIL..DEADLY LIGHTNING..AND HEAVY RAINS THAT CAN QUICKLY FLOOD LOW LYING AREAS. AS OF 330 PM THERE WERE NO THUNDERSTORMS IN IOWA. HOWEVER A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WAS LOCATED IN EXTREME SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA BUT WAS MOVING NORTHEAST AT 35 MILES AN HOUR. THAT STORM POSES NO THREAT TO IOWA BUT THUNDERSTORMS COULD DEVELOP AT ANY TIME IN NORTHWEST AND NORTH CENTRAL PARTS OF THE STATE. OBRIEN
