SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT AND RADAR SUMMARY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BROWNSVILLE TX 830 PM CDT TUE APR 29 1986 AT 830 PM A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS EXTENDED FROM 40 MILES NORTHEAST OF LAREDO SOUTHWARD ACROSS FALCON LAKE TO 35 MILES SOUTHWEST OF RIO GRANDE CITY. THE LINE WAS MOVING EAST AT LESS THAN 10 MILES AN HOUR WHILE INDIVIDUAL THUNDERSTORMS MAKING UP THE LINE WERE MOVING NORTH NORTHEAST AT 25 MILES AN HOUR. THE SLOW MOVEMENT OF THE LINE WAS CAUSING SEVERAL INDIVIDUAL THUNDERSTORMS TO PASS OVER THE SAME SPOT... ALLOWING RAINFALL TO ACCUMULATE... AND PROBABLY PRODUCING MUCH NEEDED RAINFALL TOTALS OF TWO INCHES OR MORE. IN ADDITION... THE THUNDERSTORMS WERE CAUSING GUSTY WINDS AND SMALL HAIL. WIND GUSTS OF 37 MILES AN HOUR WERE REPORTED AT LAREDO AIRPORT... AND MARBLE SIZED HAIL WAS REPORTED BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT IN ZAPATA. THE LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD CONTINUE TO MOVE EAST... CAUSING LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN... BRIEF GUSTY WINDS AND SMALL HAIL IN EASTERN ZAPATA COUNTY... AMD WESTERN JIM HOGG AND STARR COUNTIES.
