SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DENVER CO 1040AM MDT SAT AUG 2 1986 ...HIGH POTENTIAL FOR HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS IN EASTERN COLORADO... THERE IS AGAIN A GOOD POSSIBILITY OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING IN EASTERN COLORADO TODAY. SOME OF THESE STORMS MAY CONTAIN LARGE HAIL AND HEAVY RAIN BY THIS AFTERNOON. LOCAL FLOODING OF SMALL STREAMS STREETS AND OTHER LOW LYING AREAS IS A POSSIBILITY. SINCE THE STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO MOVE FAIRLY RAPIDLY HOWEVER...SERIOUS FLASH FLOODING OVER LARGE AREAS IS NOT A GREAT THREAT. A VERY MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIR MASS REMAINS IN PLACE OVER THE EASTERN PLAINS OF COLORADO THIS MORNING. THIS IN COMBINATION WITH UPSLOPE FLOW HAS MADE THE POTENTIAL FOR INTENSE STORM DEVELOPMENT RATHER HIGH. SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP IN SOME AREAS BY EARLY AFTERNOON AND THEN MOVE ONTO THE PLAINS WHILE INTENSIFYING. ALMOST ANY LOCATION IN EASTERN COLORADO MAY BE THREATENED THIS AFTERNOON.
