Current Conditions at 3 p.m. EDT this Friday afternoon: Skies are mostly sunny with pleasant conditions weather wise. However, a change is in the offing over the weekend as a coastal storm backs westward. Showers are likely both Saturday night and Sunday, then only slow improvements Monday. Here are the forecast details: *** Saturday’s forecast: Some sun early will give way to cloudiness by afternoon. A cool wind will also be present as high temperatures reach the middle and upper 60s. Ozone and PM2.5 concentrations remain low. *** Sunday’s forecast: Mostly cloudy with a breezy north wind Sunday, along with showers from time to time. Highs will be limited to near 60. Low values of air pollutants will occur. *** Monday’s forecast: The strong low pressure system will slowly move out to sea Monday with mostly cloudy skies and good air quality. *** Extended forecast: Skies turn partly sunny Tuesday with a milder afternoon, and Wednesday brings less wind with more sunshine appearing. Air quality remains good Tuesday through the mid-week period.---McAuliffe

Fine particles in micrograms per cubic meter, ozone in parts per billion as an 8-hour average. The index for each hour is EPA’s: the ozone figure is already the 8-hour average the ozone index is defined on, and the particle figure is run through EPA’s NowCast, which is how an hourly PM2.5 concentration becomes an index.

NOAA’s analysts have not drawn smoke over Lamar in satellite imagery today.
NOAA’s model forecasts no measurable smoke near the ground here over the next two days.

Category descriptions are the Environmental Protection Agency’s own.
What these numbers are. An index beside a monitor’s name is a measurement, published hourly by AirNow and preliminary until the operating agency certifies it. A category for today or tomorrow is a state or local agency forecaster’s own forecast for a reporting area. An hourly index is NOAA’s air quality model on a five-kilometer grid, not a reading from any instrument. Where a town has no monitor within reach, only the model figures appear, and the page says so.
