At 9:22 today 9 October 2022 (7:22 UTC), a lava overflow in the Central sector of the crater area caused the collapse of a portion of the crater rim which gave rise to a pyroclastic flow on the Sciara del Fuoco . The flow reached the shoreline in about 26 seconds and impacted the water at a terminal velocity of about 50 m / s. (Note: unofficial translation)
