What the record says

NCEI’s account, from the sources it cites.

the first observation of a landslide‐generated tsunami from Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) precise positioning of ships […] The R/V Sikuliaq detected waves in Resurrection Bay in Alaska generated by the Lowell Point landslide […] The Lowell Point landslide was a subaerial landslide that occurred between 03:39 and 03:40 UTC on 8 May 2022, in Seward, Alaska, off of Lowell Point Road […] The landslide extent and volume were estimated to be approximately 60 by 90 m (Petley, 2022) and around 30,500 m3 of material (Boots, 2022). (reference #14029)

A subaerial landslide occurred on Lowell Point Road in Seward, Alaska at approximately 03:40 UTC on May 8th, 2022. Some of the mountainous debris fell into Resurrection Bay, where the R/V Sikuliaq was in port (~ 650 m away from the landslide), generating a small wave. The small wave generated by the Lowell Point landslide was detected by the R/V Sikuliaq [equipped with Precise Point Positioning (PPP) of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver] .(reference #13716)
