1935 August 22, Very doubtful tsunami, Meteorological cause (?). Regarding the 22 August 1935 event, Agostinho (1935) (reference #1919) mentions that at 22 h 00 min (local time) a very high tidal wave, and another one that followed, suddenly invaded the Porto do Comprido (Faial Island) to a distance of 80 m, moving a fishing vessel and damaging some others. This author states that the sea only invades land with such a great distance during major storms and mentions the worsening of the sea conditions on the night of 22–23 of August, owing to a strong depression south of Iceland, relating it to the observed waves in Faial Island. In the absence of other data, the 1935 flood is probably related to a meteorological phenomenon. (reference #13057)
