1925, May 11-12. Calabrian Arc, Island of Sicily, the southern shore. Waves of meteorological origin were observed. The phenomenon started in Porto Empedocle with the rise of water at 22h50m on May 11 and ended at 14h00m on
May 12. After high water the sea receded at 23h10m. The high water indicated by observers on May 12 occurred at OOh2Sm, 01h45" and 08'15'"; the low water - at OOhoo", 06h10", 07h45m, 12h30m, 13h00m. The highest rise of water
amounted to 43 em above the normal sea level, the lowest drop - 34 cm relative to the same level. Boats, including a steam vessel, were washed up onto the beach several meters above the waterline. The strongest wave was noted at
05h30m on May 12. The phenomenon was observed everywhere along the southern shore of Sicily. The waves were recorded by tide gauges in Porto Empedocle and in Marsala. (reference #2130)
