June 8, 1909, 05:46.5 UTC, 26.5 S, 70.5 W, magnitude 7.6 MS. In the Chasaral-Copiago region, there was a moderate earthquake. It was felt on steamships off the coast as a very strong seaquake; the hulls of the ships shook. The sea was not agitated. Navarrete (ref #9289) mistakenly mentions that the earthquake was accompanied by tidal waves. (reference #415)
