Similar occurrences of coastal flooding have been observed in the past, for instance at the end of 1905 at Grand Popo. In 1905 and again in May 1911 Grand-Popo and Lome were
flooded by the sea, with destruction of the wharf at
Lome but there is no evidence that this was associated with seismic activity. (reference #1214)
