October 16,1868, 3:00 [local time]. There was a rather strong, brief earthquake at Santiago; there was no rumble. Oscillations in sea level like the August ones were observed at Valparaiso. The water rose to the same height. These oscillations, it is thought, also spread to the nearest small ports. (reference #415)
