On August 29, 1680, [Japanese Calendar Enpo 8 8 6] 94 deaths in the coastal area of Tokaido and Kwanto were caused by a storm surge in Enshunada. (reference #150)
On September 28?, 1680, there was an earthquake at Totomi-Nada (Aichi and Shizuoka Prefectures). There was a tsunami on the coast of Totomi-Nada and Fukushima Prefectures. Many homes were washed out and many people drowned. Imamura (reference #2559) considers this tsunami to have been of storm origin, although the available historical materials suggest that it may, in fact, have been caused by an earthquake. On September 28, 1680, [Japanese Calendar Enpo 8 8 6] a tsunami generated in Enshunada caused houses to be washed away and many persons drowned in Chubu, Totomi (Enshu-mda) Iwata CO - Fukuahima. Imamura (reference #2559) reports this as a possible storm surge, but the earthquake reported in Fukushima chronicles (Musya, 1941, reference #3462) suggests it may have been a tsunami. Sep. 28 date used by Imamura is correct, Sept. 29 used by Musya is not. (reference #79)
