   Light damage. Surface peeled off some roofs, gutters and siding damaged, branches broken, shallow-rooted trees pushed over.

   Moderate damage. Roofs badly stripped, mobile homes overturned or badly damaged, exterior doors lost, windows broken.

3. EF2111 to 135 mphthis tornado

   Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

4. EF3136 to 165 mph

   Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

5. EF4166 to 200 mph

   Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

6. EF5over 200 mph

   Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

A warm front headed north into the region bringing a large swath of rain. Immediately south of the front, atmospheric conditions became unstable enough for a few storms to develop. One storm developed with enough rotation to generate a tornado in Carroll County.

A tornado touched down along Kinzer Road four miles east-southeast of Gladesboro, VA. The tornado traveled northeast along Gladesboro Road toward Football Lane before lifting south of U.S. Highway 58. Numerous trees were snapped and two structures were damaged along the tornado path. The one structure was a two story family home that was shifted off its foundation and had its roof torn off along Gladesboro Road. Additionally, a modular home along Football Lane had its roof partially blown off. Damage values are estimated. There was $255,000 in damage to the two damage structures, $45,000 in roof damages and approximately $100,000 in replacement costs for outbuilding structures.
