EF1 tornado, Boon Hall to Red Hill, Texas, April 24, 2015

From Boon Hall to Red Hill, this EF1 tornado ran 6.2 miles across Cass County on April 24, 2015, touching down at 9:16 PM CDT and reaching 275 yards wide. It killed nobody.

    Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

  5. EF4166 to 200 mph

    Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

  6. EF5over 200 mph

    Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

  7. Unrated

What the Weather Service recorded

West southwest flow aloft with embedded disturbances in this flow allowed for vigorous thunderstorm growth across Central and North Central Texas during the afternoon hours of April 24th. A warm front that was nearly stationary across North Texas into West Central Louisiana began moving north during the late afternoon and evening hours, allowing for a warm sector airmass to move into the entire region. Moderate instability, strong deep layer shear and high lapse rates resulted in multiple modes of strong to severe thunderstorms across Northeast Texas, Southeast Oklahoma, Southwest Arkansas and Northern Louisiana.

An EF1 tornado touched down 8 miles northwest of Linden, Texas. Damage consisted of numerous trees uprooted and snapped. Several trees took down powerlines in the area as well. Estimated peak wind speeds were between 95 and 105 mph. Patch length was 6.21 miles long with a path width of 275 yards wide.
