EF0 tornado, Alvord, Texas, May 15, 2013

This EF0 tornado ran 0.7 miles across Wise County on May 15, 2013, touching down at 7:35 PM CDT and reaching 25 yards wide. It killed nobody.

The rating scale

    Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

  5. EF4166 to 200 mph

    Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

  6. EF5over 200 mph

    Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

  7. Unrated

What the Weather Service recorded

A tornado and severe weather outbreak occurred on the afternoon and evening hours of May 15th. Nineteen tornadoes occurred, including one EF-4 and one EF-3. Six fatalities occurred in the city of Granbury, TX. These fatalities were the first in the Fort Worth county warning area since 2006. An additional 54 people were injured by the various tornadoes during the evening of May 15th. A number of homes, 171, suffered major damaged or were destroyed. An additional 513 homes suffered minor damage or were somehow affected. ||During the afternoon of May 15th, a vigorous upper level low moved slowly southeast from the panhandle of Texas into the Red River Valley. A dry line strengthened throughout the day, triggering thunderstorms between Bowie and the DFW metroplex. As the upper storm moved slowly east and southeast, several supercell thunderstorms developed, and most of them produced tornadoes.

Trained spotters observed a brief tornado northeast of Alvord.
