From Liberal to Oskaloosa, this F1 tornado ran 0.2 miles across Barton County on May 26, 1996, touching down at 10:02 PM CDT and reaching 50 yards wide. It killed nobody, and did $10,000 of property damage.

    Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

  6. F5261 to 318 mph

    Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

What the Weather Service recorded

F1 tornado from Mulberry Kansas continued northeast and produced a continous damage path from 2 miles west of Liberal to 3 miles north of Liberal. Most of the damage was to trees, some up to 4 feet in diameter. Several large pieces of tin roofing material was blown off a barn.

F1 tornado briefly touched down on a farm damaging a barn and taking its roof off.
