   Light damage. Surface peeled off some roofs, gutters and siding damaged, branches broken, shallow-rooted trees pushed over.

2. EF186 to 110 mph

   Moderate damage. Roofs badly stripped, mobile homes overturned or badly damaged, exterior doors lost, windows broken.

3. EF2111 to 135 mphthis tornado

   Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

4. EF3136 to 165 mph

   Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

5. EF4166 to 200 mph

   Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

6. EF5over 200 mph

   Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

7. Unrated

   The survey recorded a tornado but could not put a number on it, most often because it crossed open country and damaged nothing a rating can be read from.

The tornado touched down about 2 miles south of Newton where it produced EF2 tree damage. It progressed to the northeast and crossed Hwy 130 before dissipating just northeast of the intersection of E 850 Ave and N 1325th St. The tornado cause significant tree damage along Hwy 130 and again along N 1325 St. It also destroyed an outbuilding along N 1100th St and tossed the debris in several directions.

A remnant Mesoscale Convective Vortex (MCV) interacted with a sheared and unstable environment to produce numerous supercells in southeast Illinois on June 21st. 13 tornadoes were documented, the strongest being two EF-2 tornadoes near Newton. Storms training over the same areas led to widespread heavy rainfall and several occurrences of flash flooding.

The tornado touched down about 2 miles south of Newton where it|produced EF2 tree damage. It progressed to the northeast and|crossed Hwy 130 before dissipating just northeast of the|intersection of E 850 Ave and N 1325th St. The tornado caused|significant tree damage along Hwy 130 and again along N 1325 St.|It also destroyed an outbuilding along N 1100th St and tossed the|debris in several directions.

Radar supports a new tornado developing in the area of N 1400 St|near the Embarras River where it destroyed an outbuilding and|caused tree damage. It progressed northeastward through wooded areas,|causing significant tree damage. Numerous very large trees were|snapped off and other tree tops were shredded. Corn in the fields|was flattened into the ground, with a suction vortex evident|down the central path. The tornado continued across the Embarras|River crossing 900th Ave, causing more tree damage before|dissipating near N 1600th St.

The county was under a tornado watch, issued at 18:28 UTC and running to 02:54 UTC.
