   Light damage. Surface peeled off some roofs, gutters and siding damaged, branches broken, shallow-rooted trees pushed over.

   Moderate damage. Roofs badly stripped, mobile homes overturned or badly damaged, exterior doors lost, windows broken.

3. EF2111 to 135 mph

   Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

4. EF3136 to 165 mph

   Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

5. EF4166 to 200 mph

   Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

6. EF5over 200 mph

   Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

7. Unrated

   The survey recorded a tornado but could not put a number on it, most often because it crossed open country and damaged nothing a rating can be read from.

Multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms passed through the region for nearly the entirety of April 27th. The afternoon round was expected to be the most volatile, with an environment primed for high-end severe weather reflected by an areawide SPC Moderate Risk. What culminated was widespread large hail, wind damage, and three tornadoes in Illinois.

The tornado that formed in St. Clair county moved into Clinton county where it passed just southeast of Trenton and Sugar Creek. Along Route 160, the tornado destroyed power poles, damaged the roof of one home, and removed about half of the roof of one farm outbuilding. Along Highline Road, the tornado peeled part of the roof from a barn before dissipating.

A tornado developed just southwest of Germantown where it damaged part of the roof of an outbuilding. In Germantown, the tornado produced mostly tree damage. However, it did destroy the roof of one manufactured home and it completely destroyed another. From there, it damaged mostly trees until it reached just south of Beckemeyer. Here, the tornado destroyed one outbuilding and flipped another. The tornado produced more tree damage before dissipating just south of Carlyle.

The county was under a tornado watch, issued at 17:50 UTC and running to 02:04 UTC.
