   Light damage. Surface peeled off some roofs, gutters and siding damaged, branches broken, shallow-rooted trees pushed over.

   Moderate damage. Roofs badly stripped, mobile homes overturned or badly damaged, exterior doors lost, windows broken.

3. EF2111 to 135 mph

   Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

4. EF3136 to 165 mph

   Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

5. EF4166 to 200 mph

   Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

6. EF5over 200 mph

   Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

7. Unrated

   The survey recorded a tornado but could not put a number on it, most often because it crossed open country and damaged nothing a rating can be read from.

A supercell thunderstorm moved across northeast Illinois including Chicago and the western suburbs during the late afternoon and early evening of June 13th. Widespread significant wind damage occurred in many areas and two tornadoes occurred. Thousands of trees were damaged and hundreds of trees were snapped or uprooted. Several houses were damaged, some significantly, by falling trees. Numerous vehicles were damaged or crushed by falling trees or tree limbs.

A tornado with peak winds of 75 mph touched down just southeast of the intersection of Golf and Bartlett Roads. The tornado produced only tree damage as it moved southeast through a wooded area. The tornado lifted south of Poplar Creek.

A tornado with peak winds of 80 mph touched down just west of Roselle Road and just south of Lunt Avenue. Trees were uprooted near Roselle Road just after the tornado touched down. The tornado caused roof damage to a fast food restaurant building along Roselle Road, just south of Nerge Road. Sporadic tree damage continued along the path until the tornado crossed Devon Avenue and into DuPage County.

The county was under a tornado watch, issued at 22:51 UTC and running to 00:59 UTC.
