   Moderate damage. Roofs badly stripped, mobile homes overturned or badly damaged, exterior doors lost, windows broken.

   Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

4. EF3136 to 165 mph

   Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

5. EF4166 to 200 mph

   Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

6. EF5over 200 mph

   Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

Several clusters of thunderstorms developed along a nearly stationary frontal boundary draped across central Illinois during the late afternoon and evening of May 29th. Four landspout type tornadoes touched down beneath developing cells across portions of Christian and Macon counties. Other storms produced isolated wind damage and hail as large as quarters. In addition, numerous cells training over the same locations dropped as much as 2 to 3 inches of rainfall in a short period of time along the I-70 corridor. As a result, localized flash flooding occurred across portions of Effingham and Clark counties, with the most significant flooding taking place in West Union in Clark County where several feet of water was flowing across town.

A landspout tornado touched down in an open field about 3.8 miles north-northwest of Stonington at 4:28 PM CDT. The tornado dissipated 2 minutes later with no damage being reported.

A landspout tornado touched down in an open field about 4.1 miles northeast of Stonington at 4:35 PM CDT. The tornado dissipated 3 minutes later with no damage being reported.
