F0 tornado, Millerville to Lineville, Alabama, May 7, 2003

From Millerville to Lineville, this F0 tornado ran 1.2 miles across Clay County on May 7, 2003, touching down at 3:41 PM CDT and reaching 70 yards wide. It killed nobody, and did $1,000 of property damage.

The rating scale

    Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

  4. F3158 to 206 mph

    Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

  5. F4207 to 260 mph

    Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

  6. F5261 to 318 mph

    Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

  7. Unrated

What the Weather Service recorded

A weak tornado touched down in the western part of Clay County in the Talladega National Forest. One house sustained minor damage to the siding and exterior trim and a number of trees were downed along the path. The path extended from the west side of CR 18 across an isolated area just north of Mcgehee Mountain to just east of Bolton Road.Beg: 33 13.977/86 00.964 End: 33 13.932/85 59.780

A small tornado touched down south-southeast of Ashland just west of SR 77 and the Wellborn Cabinet Plant. The weak tornado was observed by a number of people and did very little damage. Besides downing a few small trees, the tornado damaged a couple of light posts at the cabinet plant.Beg: 33 15.014/85 49.373 End: 33 15.206/85 48.301

A very weak tornado apparently touched down just north of the center of Lineville and moved east-northeast ending east of SR 9. Damage was very minor and included several broken trees and some minor roof damage.Beg: 33 18.877/85 45.308 End: 33 19.042/85 44.105
