- Dense Fog in Iowa, December 28, 2024Dense fog blanketed the area on the the morning of December 28th with a dense fog advisory in effect for visibility under a quarter mile. Unfortunately a car accident that morning resulted in three fatalities and three injuries.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, March 19, 2020One person was killed and another injured when two semi's collided southeast of Monona (Clayton County) in dense fog. The driver of one semi failed to stop at an intersection of U.S. Highway 52 and State Highway 13 and collided with the second semi.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, January 5 to 8, 2008A strong storm system tracking slowly out of the Rockies and into the Plains, set up a sustained southerly flow of warmer and increasingly moist air into the area.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, November 14 to 15, 2024Widespread dense fog developed the night of November 14th and continued through the morning of November 15th. Visibility was under one quarter mile across much of Iowa during this time with a Dense Fog Advisory in effect.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, October 30, 2013Dense fog formed across much of central Iowa during the early morning hours of the 30th and continued through the mid to late morning hours. Visibilities were reduced to less than one quarter mile in the widespread dense fog. Many locations reported near zero visibilities.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, January 11, 2023Persistent fog from the morning into the early afternoon of January 11 resulted in long periods of visibility less than one-quarter mile, as well as deposition of frost on roadways.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, December 24 to 26, 2025Dense fog led to visibility less than 1/4 mile across much of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa from Christmas Eve through Christmas Day and into December 26th.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, January 11, 2013At least nine people were injured in vehicle accidents across Allamakee County that occurred in dense fog on January 11th.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, March 4, 2010A brief three hour period of dense fog occurred across portions of Mitchell, Floyd and Chickasaw counties during the morning of March 4th. The fog brought visibilities down to near zero from around 5:30 a.m. until approximately 8:00 a.m., before improving.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, December 14 to 15, 2014Dense fog developed over much of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois around midnight the morning of the 14th and lingered into the day. Atmospheric mixing driven by the sun caused the fog to lift during the day of the 14th in areas generally south of U.S. Highway 30.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, February 16, 2011Dense fog blanketed parts of northeast Iowa on the morning of February 16th. Four people on board a school bus were injured in a four vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 18 and Echo Road near Monona (Clayton County).
- Dense Fog in Iowa, December 20 to 22, 2007Warmer air flowing over a snow-covered ground caused dense fog to form, which lasted for about a 36 hour period. The dense fog developed on December 20, 2007 and finally disippated on December 22. Visibilities were frequently at or below 1/4 mile during this period.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, November 19 to 20, 2012A weak trough of low pressure from MN into the southern Plains brought light south winds and increasing low level moisture into the region.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, March 15, 2000Widespread dense fog formed in the vicinity of a high pressure ridge, where winds were light and the sky had cleared. No injuries were reported.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, February 4, 2008Southerly winds brought warmer air across a snow depth of 3 to 6 inches, which caused dense fog to develop over the region on February 4, 2008.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, January 16 to 19, 2010A stagnant weather pattern produced 3 consecutive days of dense fog across much of the region January 16-19, 2010. High pressure brought light winds to the area so little in the way of mixing of the atmosphere occurred.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, November 21, 2012Widespread dense fog with visibilities frequently 1/4 mile or less occurred during the night and much of the morning on November 21, 2012.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, December 12 to 13, 1999Dense fog combined with freezing temperatures to deposit a thin layer of ice on many roads. Several accidents were reported. A single fatality accident occurred at Highway 218 and Melrose Avenue on the southwest side of Iowa City.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, December 26 to 27, 2008A strong low pressure system in the southern Plains pulled warm and moist gulf air northward into much of the Midwest. This airmass flowing over a 6 to 12 inch snow depth, caused widespread dense fog to form across eastern Iowa and northwest and western Illinois.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, March 20 to 21, 2000Dense fog formed in an area where winds were light, the ground was moist, and clear skies allowed rapid radiational cooling. No injuries were reported.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, May 2, 2000Clearing skies, light winds and a damp ground led to the formation of dense fog over the region. No injuries were reported.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, December 29 to 31, 2010Fog develop across northeast Iowa and reduced the visibility to less than mile for an extended period starting on the 29th and continuing through much of the 30th. The fog lingered well into the 31st along the Mississippi River.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, December 12, 1996Dense fog and freezing temperatures deposited a thin layer of ice over most area roads and made driving difficult. Numerous accidents were reported.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, March 8 to 11, 2010Fog was observed across much of northeast Iowa from the morning of March 8th through around noon on March 11th. Fog was nearly continuous through these four days with visibilities staying mainly below a mile.
- Dense Fog in Iowa, November 6, 20011 Dead, 2 Injured. At approximately 851 am CST, on Friday, November 6, 2001, a car was stopped in front of flashing lights at a railroad crossing on highway 13, about 3/4 of a mile south of county road D47. A truck rammed into the rear of the car.
