Flood in Arizona
Every flood event the National Weather Service has filed in Arizona, year by year, with the most significant episodes. Flooding that develops more slowly than a flash flood: rivers leaving their banks, or water standing over land for an extended time.

- Flash Flooding and Flooding in Arizona, August 3 to 31, 1997Flash flooding of state highway 99 south of Leupp. Two drainage ditches and a small stock pond filled rapidly with water which then flowed across highway 99, 2 miles south of Leupp. Arizona Dept.
- Flash Flooding and Flood in Arizona, August 1 to 17, 1997Heavy rain from thunderstorms sent a one foot wall of water down a dry wash at Harrison Road and Pantano in far eastern Tucson preventing traffic from crossing.
- Tornado and Flash Flooding in Arizona, July 5 to 29, 1999Three U.S. Forest Service firefighters were stunned or paralyzed for a few minutes as lightning hit the ground near them. They also suffered some burns on the feet and shoulders.
- Flood in Arizona, November 29 to 30, 2019A powerful Pacific low pressure system moving slowly east across Arizona interacted with deep moisture to produce widespread moderate to heavy rain across south-central Arizona during the morning hours on November 29th.
- Flooding and Heavy Snow in Arizona, March 20 to 26, 2023The first in a series of disturbances moved across Arizona from March 20 to 21. This caused widespread snow showers to develop. The heaviest snow was over the higher terrain in upslope areas. This storm also delivered strong and damaging winds.
- Tornado and Flash Flooding in Arizona, September 2 to 13, 1997Flash Flooding of Bright Angel Creek caused minor flooding in the Bright Angel Campground.
- Flash Flooding and Flood in Arizona, September 8, 2014Moisture associated with Tropical Depression Norbert, once rated as strong as a Category 3 hurricane, contributed to very heavy rainfall across southeast Arizona during the morning and early afternoon hours of September 8th.
- Flooding in Arizona, April 1 to 30, 2023Snowmelt runoff from the anomalous amounts of snow over the Arizona high terrain led to continued elevated flows in the Salt and Verde River watersheds.
- Flash Flooding and Flooding in Arizona, October 12 to 13, 2025A nearly stationary upper-level trough combined with tropical moisture remnants from Tropical Storms Priscilla and Raymond, which developed off the eastern Pacific, led to scattered to widespread thunderstorm activity across much of south-central AZ.
- Flash Flooding and Flooding in Arizona, July 22 to 24, 2021A number of rounds of thunderstorms were triggered by a westward moving upper level weather system across southeast Arizona from the afternoon of July 22 into the early morning of July 23.
- Flash Flood and Winter Storm in Arizona, January 20 to 23, 2010A very strong jet stream moving across the Pacific brought abundant moisture and significant precipitation to northern Arizona on January 21th. The snow level started out around 3400 feet with significant snow above 5000 feet.
- Flash Flooding and Flooding in Arizona, July 30 to 31, 2010Numerous thunderstorms formed within a very moist atmosphere over southeast Arizona, producing heavy flooding rainfall at many locales. Many creeks, washes and rivers experienced heavy runoff and elevated flows.
- Flash Flooding and Flood in Arizona, September 6 to 7, 2012A weak upper level disturbance combined with abundant moisture approaching 2 inches of precipitable water to generate widespread thunderstorms across southeast Arizona. Thunderstorms produced flash flooding and some produced damaging winds.
- Flooding and Hail in Arizona, September 1 to 20, 1999About 2 inches of rain fell in about 2 hours.
- Flood and Dust Storm in Arizona, August 22 to 23, 2024Thunderstorm activity developed across much of eastern AZ, along the higher terrain features, during the early afternoon hours. Outflow boundaries emanating from the activity over the higher terrain areas sparked a complex of robust thunderstorms over Pinal County.
- Flash Flooding and Flood in Arizona, October 3 to 4, 2018A strong Pacific low pressure system plus leftover moisture from the remnants of Hurricane Rosa produced thunderstorms over the Mojave Desert. Significant flash flooding and isolated severe weather occurred.
- Flooding in Arizona, March 4 to 31, 2023Anomalous snowfall across the high terrain of Arizona as well as lower elevation rainfall led to greater than normal runoff into the Salt and Verde watersheds.
- Flooding and Hail in Arizona, August 10 to 31, 1999Microburst winds and heavy rain developed over much of north Phoenix around 430 pm. As many as 20 power poles were downed by the high winds, and torrential rain near Rose Garden Lane between 19th and 25th avenues.
- Flash Flooding and Flood in Arizona, February 27 to 28, 2017The second of two low pressure systems hit northern Arizona with a generous moisture tap. This produced abundant snow above around 6,000 feet and heavy rain below that elevation. Several locations along and north of the Mogollon Rim experienced strong to high winds.
- Flash Flood and Flood in Arizona, March 8 to 9, 2013A powerful winter storm moved east across the central Arizona deserts on the 8th of March, and the associated cold front passed over the area during the afternoon hours bringing gusty winds in excess of 50 mph, locally heavy rain and small to moderate hail.
- Flash Flood and Flood in Arizona, December 4 to 10, 2019Pacific low pressure system off the central California coast pushed a warm plume of moisture over Arizona with snow levels above 8000 feet. This caused increased flows on area streams and rivers.
- Flash Flooding and Flood in Arizona, September 8 to 10, 2014Showers and embedded thunderstorms developed across south central Arizona during the early morning hours on September 8th, and as the morning progressed the showers intensified and became more and more widespread.
