.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Sunday)
Issued at 155 PM CDT Sat May 31 2025

A few showers/isolated thunderstorm are possible late this
afternoon along and south of I-10 from Ozona to Junction. But they
should be short-lived, if they occur, and end before sunset.

Short term models develop a few isolated thunderstorms north, in
the N. Concho Valley and I-20 corridor late Sunday afternoon, as a
weak outflow boundary moves south from Oklahoma and washes out.
GFS MUCAPES are up to 1750 J/KG, so it is possible a severe storm
could develop. SPC Day2 has a marginal risk of severe
thunderstorms along and east of Mason to San Angelo to Sweetwater
to Roby line.

Light winds otherwise become south tonight at 5 to 15 mph as
surface high pressure moves into East Texas. Highs rise back into
the mid 90s Sunday, with some upper 90s in the Concho Valley and
western Big Country.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday night through next Saturday)
Issued at 136 PM CDT Sat May 31 2025

An upper level currently off the coast of Baja California is
forecast to track northeast across the Desert Southwest late
Sunday then across the Southern Plains Monday. As this feature
approaches, scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast to
develop across the Permian Basin and Trans-Pecos region late in
the afternoon, then track east. Some of this activity is forecast
to move into our western counties during the evening hours. A few
strong to severe storms will be possible. Highs on Monday will be
above seasonal normals, in the mid to upper 90s.

On Tuesday, the next upper level low is forecast to more onshore
across southern California, then track east across the Dessert
Southwest, eventually tracking across the Southern Plains as an
open wave on Wednesday. Meanwhile, a cold front will move into the
Big Country late Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night. This front
should be the focus for shower and thunderstorm development as it
slowly moves south. High rain chances are then expected Wednesday
as the aforementioned upper level trough approaches and increases
storm coverage associated with the cold front. The highest PoPs
will be across the northern half of the area, but if the front
moves a bit farther south than currently forecast, some of the
higher rain chances may need to be shifted south. Severe weather
will continue to be possible, along with locally heavy rainfall.
Highs on Tuesday will be in the low to mid 90s. Highs on Wednesday
will be in the 80s across the northern half of the area and in
the lower 90s across the southern half of the area.

On Thursday, the remnant boundary will still be in the area which
should be a focus for at least isolated to scattered showers and
thunderstorms. Upper level ridging is then forecast to build
across South Texas and North Mexico for the latter part of the
week. This will result in generally dry conditions across the
area, although some rain chances may continue for the northern
half of the area. Expect highs in the 90s with lows in the upper
60s to lower 70s.
