A drier and slightly cooler air mass enters South Florida behind a
passing cold front today. Deep-layered high pressure will build back
over the region through the rest of the weekend allowing for the dry
pattern to persist through the short term period. Temperatures
tonight will range from the lower 50s across inland Southwest
Florida to the lower to mid 60s around the east coast urban heat
island. High temperatures will rebound on Sunday ranging from the
upper 70s along the Atlantic coast to the lower to mid 80s across
Southwest Florida.

Adjectives to describe the extended period in store for South
Florida include placid, benign, and humdrum. Mid-level synoptic
ridging will dominate the majority of the upcoming week, with the
exception of the base of a transient mid-level trough and a weak
frontal boundary (no cool down with this one, just more
reinforcing continental dry air, very exciting stuff.) that will
arrive across the area mid to late week. Rain chances remain
minimal in nature for the foreseeable future with dry air and mid-
level subsidence sticking around. High temperatures will vary
depending on prevailing wind direction but will be on a gradual
incline up as sunny skies and dry air prevail.

Sunday morning.

Cautionary conditions across the local waters today as the cold
frontal boundary pushes through the area this morning. Seas will be
in the 3-5 feet range across all local waters today with winds often
around 15 kts. After today, winds and seas gradually subside further
with tranquil weather conditions expected to end the weekend and
extending into early next week.

The elevated rip current risk along the Gulf beaches should diminish
tonight into Sunday. The rip current risk along the Palm Beaches
could begin to increase in coming days, particularly for the beaches
north of Palm Beach.

A prolonged period of drier air will settle over South Florida
this weekend and into much of next week. This will result in
relative humidity values falling at or below critical thresholds
each day, which will lead to elevated fire concerns. 20 foot winds
are generally around 10 mph which is below critical levels in the
coming days, but there remains a chance for some mixing to occur
that could increase winds at times.
For this afternoon and evening, a Red Flag Warning is in effect
for portions of southern Florida due to the critically low
relative humidity values and an increased probability of wind
speeds of 15 mph or greater. Miami- Dade and Broward Counties
remain in a Fire Weather Watch but will be monitored in case a
short-fused Red Flag Warning becomes necessary.

Three teens were rescued by Lake Worth Beach lifeguards and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue after they were caught in rip currents at Lake Worth Beach. The three swimmers were transported to a hospital after receiving CPR. Two were in stable condition and one teen succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
