Deaths and injuries are direct and indirect together, as the offices filed them. Damage is property and crops in the dollars of the year, not adjusted for inflation, and only where an office estimated it.

.SHORT TERM...
(Tonight through Friday night)
Issued at 341 PM CST Thu Feb 15 2024
Key Messages:
- Medium to high rain chances tonight through Friday night
Southwesterly flow aloft ahead of a trough expected to cross over
Central Mexico through the period will continue to inject Pacific
moisture into the area. At the lower levels, a developing surface
trough will add greater moisture into the region with PWATs forecast
to reach near record values tonight into Friday. The combination of
the surging moisture across the area and the passage of a few
embedded disturbances in the flow aloft will provide for medium to
high rain chances areawide from late tonight through Friday night
(PoPs 60-90%). Patchy light rain this afternoon will give way to
showers overnight from southwest to northeast as the atmosphere
becomes saturated. Although some elevated instability will be
present, most of the area should not experience convection, and
heavy downpours would remain localized. The flooding potential will
also be minimal and localized, mostly restricted to urban and poor
drainage areas as FFG remains high as opposed to the expected
rainfall amounts (FFG: 1.5-4 in/hr vs. Storm total QPF: 1-2 in).
Nevertheless, a beneficial rainfall event is in the works through
the period.
Rain chances will begin to decrease Friday night into Saturday
morning as the trough approaches from the west sending an associated
frontal boundary across the area.
In regards to the temperature forecast, overnight lows will range
from the upper 50s to the mid 60s tonight, and in the mid 40s to low
50s tomorrow night. Given the dense cloud cover and the expected
rainfall, highs on Friday will struggle to get out of the 60s
areawide. Patchy fog may also accompany the rainfall.

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday through next Wednesday)
Issued at 341 PM CST Thu Feb 15 2024
Key Messages:
- Windy Saturday behind cold front
Cold front should be through the region by day-break Saturday with
strong cold advection infiltrating the area behind it. Max
temperatures for the day will be before sunrise with daytime
temperatures in some areas potentially only in the 40s. NBM probs of
max daytime temperatures below 50 in the Victoria Crossroads and
northern Coastal Plains have medium (40-50%) chance of not topping
50 degrees in the afternoon hours. Regardless of the exact
temperatures, it'll be a much colder day with winds making it even
colder with feels like temps in the low 40s in the Coastal Plains.
Speaking of the winds, expect gusts 30 to 40 mph. There is a low
(but not no) potential for a wind advisory for some counties in the
Plains. Gale force winds gusts are likely over the marine areas.
High pressure quickly builds across the region and shifts eastward,
but not before giving us a very cool night Saturday night into
Sunday morning. Most of the area will be in the lower to mid 30s,
but the northern Coastal Plains and Brush Country have a medium
(around 50%) chance of dropping briefly below freezing. Low lying
areas will have an even higher potential.
The rest of the forecast is smooth sailing with onshore flow
returning by the end of the weekend, but not really pulling in the
high surface moisture until mid-week. Plenty of sunshine and
gradually warming temperatures are expected. By the latter half of
the week we are probably back into the lower to mid 80s inland.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1143 AM CST Thu Feb 15 2024
Poor aviation conditions will continue across area terminals
through the forecast cycle. A mixture of MVFR/IFR conditions is
ongoing, and mostly MVFR conditions are expected to persist
through early this evening. Overnight, ceilings will drop to LIFR
levels as showers begin to roll in from southwest to northeast.
Showers and low ceilings can be expected through Friday afternoon
at all sites. Winds will be light and variable through the period
ahead of an advancing frontal boundary and a developing surface
trough.

.MARINE...
Issued at 341 PM CST Thu Feb 15 2024
Weak onshore flow tonight and Friday will strengthen to moderate
levels and shift offshore Friday night ahead of an approaching
boundary. Isolated to scattered showers tonight will become
numerous to widespread by Friday morning due to increase moisture
and a developing surface trough. Medium to high rain chances will
then persist through Friday night. Patchy fog may accompany the
rainfall tonight through Friday. A cold front will move off the
coast Saturday morning with a strong offshore flow developing in
its wake. Wind gusts to Gale force will be possible (50-70%
offshore) Saturday. Scattered to numerous showers will end from
northwest to southeast behind the cold front as drier air filters
across the area through the day Saturday. Winds decrease to weak
to moderate levels Sunday and become onshore by Sunday night.
