It's going to be yet another hot day with afternoon highs soaring into the triple digits. The risk for heat illness is on the upward trend, so please take it easy out there and stay well hydrated today! Reeves Previous Discussion: /Through Thursday Afternoon/ Heat will remain the dominant weather headline through the next couple of days, with afternoon highs soaring into the upper 90s to mid 100s across all of North and Central Texas. Heat indices will gradually be on the rise by Thursday, ranging between 105 and 112 degrees. This will lead to dangerous conditions during peak heating hours, prompting the current Heat Advisory to continue through 9 PM Thursday evening. An Excessive Heat Warning may be warranted in future forecast updates for the eastern portion of North and Central Texas on Thursday as well. Regardless, remember to take frequent breaks, drink plenty of water, and wear light- colored clothing if you are out working in this heat. Heat illness will likely be on the rise, and it is important to take seriously. Reeves && .LONG TERM... /Issued 358 AM CDT Wed Aug 7 2024/ /Thursday Night Onward/ Key messages: - Above normal temperatures will continue this weekend, however, most locations will remain at or below 100 degrees. - Most locations will not see precipitation the next 7 days. - An uptick in the fire potential is expected. ---------------------------------------------------------------- With a mostly zonal orientation of the jet stream across the northern third of the CONUS, the ridge currently across the four corners will gradually shift eastward. By Friday, the center of high pressure will be entering our region, however, a subtle weakness in the high will emerge out of Front Range and move toward the Arklatex region. This weakness will likely lead to increased cloud cover on Friday, knocking a few degrees off of our expected highs compared to Thursday. Those across North Texas are likely to see more clouds, therefore, upper 90s will prevail. For Central Texas, less clouds will lead to another day of triple digit heat. As we head into Saturday and Sunday, an East Coast trough may help push a back door cold front into the Southern Plains. Confidence in just how far south this front will make it remains low at this time. The latest guidance suggest this front may stall somewhere across North Texas and introduce a low chance for a few showers and storms. Again, confidence remains low at this time given the evolution of the East Coast trough. A less than 20% chance of precipitation has been introduced across northeast Texas on Sunday. As we begin a new work week, the area of high pressure will be centered atop North and Central Texas. Dry conditions will prevail next week along with a return of widespread triple digit heat. Of note, the lack of widespread wetting rain, especially across western North and Central Texas, will lead to a rise in potential wildfire activity. Due to the wet spring we experienced, grasses were able to readily grow, however, this will prove to be a potential hazard as fuels continue to dry in this persistent dry heat.
