Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Fort Worth TX 1214 AM CDT Tue Jul 12 2022 ...New Short Term, Aviation... .SHORT TERM... /NEW/ /Through Wednesday/ North and Central Texas will remain beneath the eastern flank of a strong mid/upper ridge through at least midweek, keeping the forecast area in a north flow aloft regime. A shortwave passing southeast through the Southern Plains will help to drag another front southward into the area on Wednesday, which may ignite more sporadic convection Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately for some, the latest guidance focuses this potential convection across Central Texas, leaving the northern half of the region dry and hot. That said, any potential precipitation will be welcomed as the severe to extreme drought continues to plague western portions of Central Texas. Outside of the isolated Wednesday precipitation, sweltering heat can be expected on either side of the approaching boundary. An Excessive Heat Warning will remain in place through Tuesday for areas roughly along and west of the Brazos River (Possum Kingdom Lake to Waco to Hearne), where a combination of heat indices reaching 110+ and/or high temperatures reaching or exceeding 105 are expected. A Heat Advisory will remain in effect for the rest of the region through Tuesday. The frontal boundary and possible convection may knock a few degrees off temperatures and dewpoints on Wednesday, so will wait for additional model guidance before deciding if and where to extend the heat products. 30 && .LONG TERM... /Issued 302 PM CDT Mon Jul 11 2022/ /Tuesday Night Onward/ Triple digit high temperatures and mostly precip free weather will continue across North and Central Texas through the weekend. Additional heat headlines will likely be needed, mainly along and south of the I-20 corridor in the coming days. A weak cold front will approach on Wednesday, but this will provide only slight relief from the heat (a degree or two) across parts of North Texas near the Red River. Isolated showers and thunderstorms may develop along the weak boundary across Central Texas, and sea breeze convection may reach our far southeastern counties during the afternoon hours, so I opted to expand the low PoPs (20% or less) further west and south of the I-20 corridor. Given the very hot temperatures, a threat for downburst winds cannot be ruled out with any of the stronger thunderstorms. Otherwise, most of the activity will dissipate with the loss of daytime heating Wednesday evening. Outside of very isolated sea breeze activity across our far southeastern counties once again Thursday afternoon, the rest of the week into early next week will remain rain-free. An area of low pressure is expected to bring some rain/storm chances along the Texas Coast, but should remain well to the south and east of our region. The broad upper level ridge will continue to remain centered over the Four Corners region through the weekend, keeping the above normal warmth across North and Central Texas.
