SHRA have developed a little sooner than expected along the coast (around GLS and LBX), so have started VCSH during the overnight hours at those sites and also at HOU and SGR due to uncertainty as to how far to the north and west they will survive. VFR for most locations during this TAF period (any MVFR ceilings that do develop in the morning should lift to VFR as the day progresses, except in/around any convection). Sticking with VCSH for now, but we'll probably need to upgrade to VCTS and/or TSRA at some point in the next couple of TAF cycles. Still expecting everything to quiet down tomorrow evening with most of the area VFR tomorrow night. At this time, looking at much less SHRA/TSRA coverage on Tuesday. 42 && .PREV DISCUSSION /Issued 642 PM CDT Sun Jul 31 2022/... .SHORT TERM [Through Monday Night]... Mostly dry and hot conditions have prevailed across the CWA so far today. Iso diurnal showers and thunderstorms will be possible. A few spotty showers are evident on radar. But the presence of dry air at the mid levels has greatly suppressed our PoPs. Temperatures are warming through the 90s this afternoon. Some of our northern counties, and particularly the Brazos Valley counties, are likely to break 100 once again today. There is an inverted mid/upper level trough pushing westward across the western Gulf this afternoon. The resulting shower and thunderstorm activity associated with the trough has remained offshore today. This is expected to change late tonight and into tomorrow. As the trough passes south of our region tonight, higher PWAT values will push northward in the trough's wake. Clouds are expected to increase overnight. After midnight, isolated coastal showers are possible. Most of the CAMs guidance is showing some isolated shower activity in our coastal counties late tonight and tomorrow morning. CAMs are also showing a better chance of diurnal and seabreeze related showers and thunderstorms tomorrow. Considering the more moist profile that will occur behind the aforementioned trough, we think the CAMs are likely on to something. Therefore, tomorrow's PoPs are higher, generally 30-50 percent. There will be a risk of locally heavy rainfall. However, this is mostly welcome news since the region continues to be well below average rainfall wise. More clouds and the presence of showers / storms are expected to keep temps a little cooler tomorrow. But do not let the word "cooler" fool you! It will still be quite hot. Our HI grids are generally showing values ~105 degrees. So you are going to want to keep that bottle of water handy! Self .LONG TERM [Tuesday Through Sunday]... H5 ridge generally centered over the Desert Southwest will gradually expand/transition to the ene and into the Central Plains as the week progresses. Local wx will be status quo into midweek with continued iso-sct diurnally driven activity across southern parts of the CWA. The 97-103 degree highs we've all come to love will remain intact, and depending on slight dewpoint fluctuations, heat indices may possibly border around heat advsy criteria at times Tue-Thu. Heading into the late work week, guidance is still pointing toward an inverted trof tracking wwd under the ridge and toward the Tx coast (Friday-ish). As this occurs and the axis passes, we should see a higher PW airmass move into the region from the east. With subsidence/capping less of a concern and lower convective temps in place, suspect we'll see higher precip chances and better overall coverage as we head into the weekend. 47 .MARINE...
