Deep and moist southerly flow remains in place over the region, with monsoon moisture streaming in. Surface dewpoints have climbed some 25-30 degrees since early Tuesday, and sounding data indicates that the mid levels of the atmosphere have moistened significantly. Showers have continued overnight, and there is strong model consensus that another round of showers and thunderstorms will occur later today, with a focus over Idaho. The best chance for storms will be this afternoon and evening, and some storms may produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall. By early Thursday the focus of precipitation will shift eastward over eastern Idaho, with lingering afternoon/evening showers possible over the higher terrain of central and south central Idaho. Temperatures will be near normal today, before rebounding to slightly above normal area-wide for the remainder of the work week. LONG TERM...Saturday through Wednesday...The very warm upper level high pressure ridge over the Intermountain Region and Great Plains will maintain above normal temperatures through the period.
