MCV from convection leftover from last evening across southwest
Missouri continues to drift to the south across northwest Arkansas
this morning. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to
be possible on the western sides of the MCV, where favorable lift
is maximized, through mid morning. Deep moisture with precipitable
water values near 2 inches could result in some locally heavy
rainfall and ponding/flooding of low lying areas and roadways.
Scattered showers/storms will remain possible through tomorrow
afternoon as well, as a weak frontal boundary sags southward to
near I-40 before stalling out. Once again, locally heavy rainfall
will be possible along with some downburst wind potential with the
stronger storms during peak heating this afternoon. Cloud cover
and rain should keep temps down a little today, though locations
that see more sun will still likely top out near 100 degrees
across eastern Oklahoma.

Rain chances begin to taper off beginning tonight and into
Wednesday as the front washes out and mid level heights begin to
rise across the region. Scattered showers/storms will remain
possible, mainly across southeast Oklahoma and west central
Arkansas tonight and throughout the day Wednesday, but less
coverage than previous days is expected. Mid and upper ridging
will build back in for late in the week and for the weekend,
bringing a return to hot and dry weather to close out this
forecast period. Rain chances will be limited and temperatures
will return to above seasonal normals for the weekend. Upper ridge
could shift a little westward by early next week, allowing some
low end rain chances to possibly return by the middle part of next
week.

VFR conditions will prevail outside of storm activity with sct to
bkn mid and high level cloud. Best chance for storms in the near
term will be at the NW AR sites and at KMLC, where VCTS mentioned
will be maintained thru the first 6 hours. Used a TEMPO at KFSM
ahead of approaching MCV. CAM data suggests afternoon and evening
storm potential roughly from I-44 southward. Used PROB30 groups to
convey the potential.

DISCUSSION...
Scattered thunderstorms will be possible throughout the day as a
weak frontal boundary remains draped over the region. Deep
moisture could lead to locally heavy rainfall with rates of one
to two inches per hour likely within the strongest cells.
Widespread severe weather isn't expected, but some locally strong
downburst winds could develop this afternoon during peak heating.

Cloud cover and rain chances will keep temps down somewhat across
most of the area, but some parts of eastern Oklahoma, west of
Highway 69, could see more sunshine and temperatures climbing to
near 100 degrees this afternoon and heat indices near 105 for some
localized areas.

EXTENDED DISCUSSION...
Scattered thunderstorms will remain possible on Wednesday, mainly
across southeastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas as the frontal
boundary slowly sage south.

Upper ridging builds back in by Thursday and through the weekend,
bringing a return to hot and dry weather. Temperatures will once
again return to above normal with heat headlines possible by late
in the weekend and early next week.
