.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure passes to the north, dragging a cold front through
the region later today. Several upper level disturbances then
pass through the region tonight through Sunday night. High
pressure then builds across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic
Monday through Tuesday night. A warm front lifts through the
region on Wednesday. Low pressure then lifts through the region
Thursday through Friday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...
On water vapor, a potent mid-level low was observed across
central PA this afternoon and is slowly heading east. At 250
MB, the fractured jet streak structure from earlier this
morning has begun to reorganize offshore, and showers have
since moved about 20 to 40 nm away from the NJ coastline. The
strongest core of DCVA is just west of the area at this time
though, so the thinking remains to be that coverage will
continue to expand this afternoon into early evening before
coming to an end around 8 - 10 PM. Widespread pea size hail has
also been reported across the area today, with some embedded
thunder and gusty winds as well. This is in response to the
very cold 500 - 850 MB thermal profiles. At 500 MB, the forecast
temperature at PHI this afternoon is -35 degrees C. To put this
in perspective, the KOKX observed 10th percentile for 500 MB
temperatures is -28 degrees C. These type of cold temperatures
aloft are supporting surface to 3 km lapse rates of around 9
degrees C (as per latest RAP analysis). Given the above, reports
of pea size hail (some covering the ground and roads), gusty
winds, and isolated rumbles of thunder will continue through the
afternoon into early evening hours.

This evening, the mid-level wave will exit the region with a
weak reinforcing cold front trailing. Some brief clearing will
be possible overnight, but this will likely be transient at best
as another potent shortwave will be diving southeast across the
Great Lakes Region.

On Sunday, a potent shortwave will dive southeast out of
Ontario towards the region with some snow showers possible
across the Poconos. Towards the coastal plain of NJ, saturation
will be much more marginal for any precipitation. Towards the
I-95 corridor, some sprinkles are possible with mixing to
flurries near the Lehigh Valley. Expect high temperatures in the
lower 40s for most areas.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The upper trough will be over the area through the short term
with H8 temperatures in the -16C to -20C range on Monday.

Low temperatures Sunday night will range from the single digits
to low teens in the southern Poconos to the teens and low 20s
elsewhere. Although winds diminish a bit Sunday night, wind
chills Sunday night into Monday morning will be as low as 5
below in the southern Poconos to the single digits and low
teens elsewhere.

Surface high pressure builds into the Ohio Valley on Monday. A
tight northwest pressure gradient develops over the Northeast
and Mid-Atlantic between that high and low pressure over the
Canadian Maritimes. Winds will increase once again to 15 to 20
mph with 25 to 35 mph gusts Monday afternoon. Temperatures on
Monday will peak in the 30s to low 40s.

The center of the high crests over the Northeast on Monday
night and then slides offshore on Tuesday. Temperatures rebound
a bit on Tuesday, but will still be well below normal levels
with highs on the low to mid 40s.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Behind the departing high, a warm front will lift through the
region on Wednesday. A period of light mixed precipitation is
possible late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as the warm
front lifts north through the region, with any precipitation
becoming all rain by Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, a deep upper trough will dig through the central
portion of the United States on Wednesday, and strong surface
low pressure develops over the upper Midwest and western Great
lakes. As this system moves east-northeastward, its associated
warm sector will overspread much of the Northeast and Mid-
Atlantic Wednesday night and Thursday. Maximum temperatures on
Thursday will rise into the 50s in the Poconos, and well into
the 60s and low 70s elsewhere, with the highest temperatures in
Delmarva. Widespread showers develop Thursday afternoon and
continue through Thursday night before tapering off on Friday
as the system departs. Given how warm and unstable it will be,
thunderstorms are also possible late Thursday afternoon and
evening.

Temperatures fall back into the 50s and 60s on Friday, but the
cold air advection looks to hold off until Friday night and
Saturday. Maximum temperatures on Saturday will be in the 40s
and 50s.

.AVIATION /19Z SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Today... Currently all TAF sites are VFR this afternoon as an
upper level low approaches from the west. Ceilings are currently
all VFR with a slow lowering towards 3 kft expected as an upper
level low approaches from the west. Coverage with the showers
and isolated thunderstorms will gradually increase as the low
approaches the region. Peak coverage of showers and isolated
thunderstorms will be between 3 PM and 7 PM and come to an end
by 9 PM. These showers may be accompanied by briefly stronger
winds than what will be prevailing (gusts upwards of 30-35 kts
possible), isolated lightning/thunder, small hail, and/or
graupel. Given the low coverage of thunder and GS, have left
out any mention in the TAF and gone with a TEMPO for SHRA at all
terminals along with MVFR vsbys and cigs. Moderate confidence.

Saturday night...Prevailing VFR conditions will continue. There
is a chance of some MVFR cigs overnight, but confidence on this
is low. West to northwest winds 10-15 kts with gusts 20-25 kts.
Moderate confidence.

Sunday...VFR conditions with clouds thickening in the afternoon.
There is a potential for some rain or snow showers towards KABE/
KRDG, or with the greater low level saturation. Northwest winds
with gusts of around 25 to 30 kts possible.

Outlook...

Sunday night...Overall, VFR. Northwest winds diminishing. High
confidence.

Monday and Monday night...VFR. NW winds 15 to 20 kts with 20 to
30 kt gusts, diminishing Monday night. High confidence.

Tuesday...VFR. NW winds 5 to 15 kts. Moderate confidence.

Wednesday...VFR. A few rain and showers possible in the
afternoon with brief MVFR conditions. SE winds 5 to 15 kts.
Moderate confidence.

Thursday...MVFR in showers and possible thunderstorms. Southerly
winds 15 to 25 kts.

.MARINE...
West to southwesterly winds will continue to increase this
afternoon and evening with gusts around 25 to 30 kts. A small
craft advisory is in effect for the Atlantic coastal waters
near and south of Atlantic City and Delaware Bay. An SCA is in
effect north of Atlantic City starting at 6 PM. Scattered
showers with isolated thunder, small hail, and locally stronger
wind gusts are expected this afternoon into early evening. Seas
3-5 feet.

The advisory conditions will continue through tonight. West
winds will continue tonight with gusts of 25-30 kts likely. A
few gale force wind gusts of 35-40 kts are possible near the
mount of Delaware Bay, mainly between 4 PM and midnight. Seas
3-5 feet.

Sunday...SCA conditions with west winds veering from the
northwest 15 to 20 kt with 25 to 30 kt gusts. Seas 3 to 5 feet
on the ocean.

Outlook...

Sunday night...NW winds 15 to 20 kt with 35 to 40 kt gusts. A
Gale Watch is now in effect for Sunday night. Best chances for
gales are southern NJ ocean waters, DE ocean waters, and DE Bay.

Monday...Lingering gales possible Monday morning. Otherwise,
SCA conditions. NW winds 15 to 20 kt with 25 to 30 kt gusts.

Tuesday...SCA conditions in the morning, gradually subsiding
through the day.

Wednesday...Sub-SCA conditions expected.

Thursday...SCA conditions expected.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Northwest winds on Sunday will increase to 15 to 20 mph with 25
to 35 mph gusts. Surface dew points will drop into the teens,
and min RH values will range from 25 to 35 percent. A
reinforcing cold front passes through the region Sunday
afternoon, and an even colder and drier airmass spreads into the
region for Monday. Surface dew points drop into the single
digits, and west to northwest winds will range from 15 to 20 mph
with 20 to 30 mph gusts. Min RH values on Monday will range
from 20 to 30 percent. Conditions only marginally improve on
Tuesday with NW winds 10 to 15 mph with 20 to 25 mph gusts, and
min RH values still less than 30 percent.
