Area Forecast Discussion...CORRECTION
National Weather Service San Juan PR
442 AM AST Tue Aug 3 2021

.SYNOPSIS...Surface high pressure across the central Atlantic
will continue to cause a gentle to moderate easterly wind flow
for the next few days. A TUTT low will continue moving westward
passing north of the local islands today, stalling to the west
and northwest of PR on Wednesday. Near normal to below normal
moisture is expected on Tuesday but moisture will increase on
Wednesday into Thursday. A weak tropical will move across the
Caribbean waters on Friday and a stronger tropical wave will reach
our local forecast area on Monday.

&&

.SHORT TERM...Tuesday through Thursday...

At the upper levels, a TUTT continues to hold over the forecast
area. Satellite derived products indicate overall precipitable water
values around 2.0 inches, which are above- normal values for this
time of the year. This, combined with the east-southeast wind flow
pattern will cause showers to develop over parts of interior and
northwestern Puerto Rico mainly in the afternoon. Also, steamer-
like shower activity cannot be ruled out downwind from El Yunque and
the U.S. Virgin Islands during the afternoon hours as well. Model
sounding suggest favorable 500 mb temperatures for the development
of isolated thunderstorms with the heaviest and most persistent rains
in an around land areas. Current model guidance suggest a wind surge
on Thursday that will aid in maintaining an unstable environment
across the forecast area and thus, favor good potential for periods
of enhanced convection especially during the afternoon hours.

.LONG TERM...Friday through Wednesday...

A weak tropical wave is forecast to move across the Caribbean
waters on Friday. Although the bulk of moisture associated to the
wave will remain south of the local, available moisture will
combine with the local effects and generate afternoon showers and
thunderstorms mainly over the interior and western portions of
Puerto Rico. A similar pattern is expected to prevail throughout
the weekend with showers developing along the interior and
western portion of PR each afternoon. A stronger tropical wave
will reach our local forecast area late Monday with the associated
moisture lingering until Wednesday.

&&

.AVIATION...Mainly VFR conditions will prevail across all terminals
during the next 24 hours. However, VCSH is expected across most of
the PR terminals, and the USVI and Leeward terminals from time to
time. MVFR conditions due to VCTS/VCSH near TJBQ/TJSJ possible
around 03/14Z. Winds will be from the E-ESE at 10 to 15 kt with
higher gust and sea breeze variations, then winds will be light and
variable over PR terminals in the overnight.

&&

.MARINE...Tranquil seas will prevail across the local waters for
the next several days as wave heights will stay at 4 feet or
below. Mariners and beachgoers could experience locally higher
waves near showers and thunderstorms. A tropical wave is expected
to move across the Caribbean waters on Friday and then a stronger
tropical wave move closer to our local region on Monday.
