Tornadoes and Hail in Minnesota, December 15, 2021

This tornado originally developed in Worth County, Iowa, moved into Freeborn County, Minnesota before crossing into Mower County west of Lyle. The tornado was only on the ground for about one minute in Mower County as it moved northeast and dissipated. One farm was damaged by the tornado, otherwise, damage was limited to trees.

The roof of a house was damaged and trees were snapped off southwest of Austin.

Large trees were snapped off in a cemetery southwest of Austin.

The automated weather observing equipment at the Austin airport measured a wind gust of 60 mph. The winds blew down trees and power lines throughout Austin causing the entire city to lose power.

Wind damage occurred to a barn and outbuilding near Adams.

A barn was destroyed near Le Roy.

An estimated 59 mph wind just occurred near Le Roy.

An estimated 79 mph wind gust occurred in Elkton.

A 73 mph wind gust was measured by a mesonet sensor just northeast of Dexter.

The automated weather observing equipment at the Dodge Center airport measured a 58 mph wind gust.

An 83 mph wind gust was measured south of Grand Meadow.

One side of a roof was blown off a large commercial building and trees were blown down in a path of wind damage southeast of Grand Meadow.

This was the second tornado of the night across Mower County. This EF1 tornado formed south of Racine, moved northeast just missing the town and then dissipated northeast of Racine. This tornado lifted the roof off a home and destroyed some farm buildings.

Widespread power outages occurred in Spring Valley from downed power lines.

Farm outbuildings were damaged northeast of Grand Meadow.

Road signs were damaged south of Claremont by strong winds.

Part of the roof was blown off a large livestock building south of Kasson.

A metal pole shed was destroyed, trees were uprooted and large branches blown down in Racine.

A path of wind damage was found near Bristol. An open air farm outbuilding was destroyed, the roof ripped off a large barn, trees and wooded electrical poles were snapped.

An open air, metal outbuilding was destroyed north of Granger.

This EF0 tornado moved across rural portions of northwest Fillmore County west of Chatfield. The tornado produced damage to several farm buildings and trees along its path.

Widespread power outages occurred in Stewartville from downed power lines.

A funnel cloud was sighted near Harmony.

A path of wind damage occurred south of Preston. Trees were blown down and roofs were removed from a couple of cattle barns.

An 84 mph wind gust was measured in Harmony with a private weather station.

A 77 mph wind gust was measured by the automated weather observing equipment at the Rochester airport.

A 72 mph wind gust was measured by a mesonet station east of Kasson.

The walls of a farm outbuilding were blown out north of Washington.

An open air farm outbuilding was destroyed and a quarter of the roof was removed from a barn east of Stewartville.

Wooden power poles were snapped north of Washington.

Trees were snapped off northeast of Stewartville.

Trees were snapped off in Pleasant Grove.

This was the second tornado of the night in Fillmore County. This narrow EF0 tornado moved across the eastern and northern parts of Preston. Houses, sheds, cars and trees were damaged along the path. The roofs of the fire department and city hall were both damaged.

Trees were blown down north of West Concord.

A large farm building was blown down southwest of Cummingsville.

An EF1 tornado formed in far northern Dodge County north of West Concord and then moved northeast into Goodhue County. Two farms along the path of the tornado sustained minor damage.

This was the third tornado of the night in Fillmore County. This EF1 tornado developed northeast of Preston and moved northeast for about 2 miles before dissipating. Farm outbuildings and trees were damaged along the path.

Trees were blown down in Rochester from an estimated 60 mph wind gust. A resident on the southeast side of the city was trapped in a house when a large tree fell and blocked the exit to the house.

Trees were snapped off southeast of Rochester.

Several large pine trees were snapped off southeast of Rochester.

One person was killed east of Rochester when a 40 foot pine tree was snapped off, fell and landed on the individual and his pickup truck.

A barn was destroyed southwest of Eyota.

An 84 mph wind gust was measured in Mabel with a private weather station.

A 63 mph wind gust was measured with a private weather station north of Mabel.

Trees were blown down in Peterson.

This was the fourth tornado of the night in Fillmore County. This EF1 tornado formed just south of the tiny town of Arendahl and was only on the ground for one minute as it moved rapidly northeast. The damage was limited to a large grove of trees northeast of Arendahl.

Large trees were snapped in a cemetery near Arendahl.

This was the fifth tornado of the night in Fillmore County. This EF1 tornado formed south of Rushford and moved to the northeast before dissipating. The tornado destroyed some farm outbuildings and damaged trees along its path.

Trees were blown down and snapped off east of Arendahl.

A path of wind damage occurred west of Rushford where trees were blown down, snapped and uprooted. A farm outbuilding was also damaged.

Large tree branches were broken southeast of Rushford.

A barn was destroyed southeast of Plainview.

An EF1 tornado developed southeast of Plainview and moved northeast across rural portions of southern Wabasha County. Farm outbuildings and trees were damaged along the path of the tornado.

An 85 mph wind gust was measured by a private weather station in Plainview.

Large tree limbs were broke off south of Fremont.

The metal roof was partially removed from a pole shed east of Plainview.

A large pole shed was extensively damaged in Plainview.

Large tree branches were broken southwest of Money Creek.

A barn was destroyed northeast of Elgin.

An EF1 tornado formed west of Houston and moved northeast, passing to the east of Money Creek before dissipating just before the Winona County line. Several farms along the Root River sustained damage from this tornado.

A path of wind damage occurred west of Hart where the roof was removed from a farm outbuilding, a metal pole shed was destroyed and siding removed from a house.

A path of wind damage occurred west of Money Creek where large tree limbs were broken off.

This short-lived EF0 tornado moved over rural areas southeast of Lewiston. Farm outbuildings, a garage and trees were damaged by the tornado.

Power outages occurred in Lewiston from downed power lines.

A house southeast of Lewiston sustained significant wind damage.

Two open air farm outbuildings were destroyed east of Lewiston.

Power poles were snapped southwest of Wilson.

A path of wind damage occurred from south of Ridgeway to near Interstate 90 east of Ridgeway. The roof was removed from a farm outbuilding and trees were uprooted and snapped off.

A path of wind damage occurred south of Ridgeway. The roof to a home was damaged and trees were snapped off.

A semi was blown over on Interstate 90 near Wilson.

Farm outbuildings sustained wind damage near Stockton.

Trees were snapped off northeast of Ridgeway.

An EF1 tornado formed on a ridge top southwest of Homer, moved northeast across Homer before moving out over the Mississippi River and into Trempealeau County, Wisconsin. The main damage occurred on the ridge top to trees and outbuildings. By the time the tornado reached Homer, it was weakening and damage was mainly limited to trees.

Trees were snapped off in Pickwick.

A path of snapped off trees occurred near Pickwick.

Trees and power poles were snapped off in Winona.
