.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Thursday.

A weak low pressure system passing through eastern Idaho will
produce breezy conditions today, although below advisory levels. The
system will pass far enough west that locations near the Montana and
Wyoming borders may see an isolated shower or thunderstorm this
afternoon. Breezy conditions continue into Wednesday as a larger low
pressure system moves into the Pacific Northwest. This system will
weaken as it moves through the area on Thursday. The central
mountains will see the best chance for precipiation with 0.25 to
0.50 inches possible across northern Custer county. However the rest
of central and eastern Idaho will see less than a tenth as the
system falls apart resulting in scattered showers and thunderstorms
for Thursday. Much colder air will accompany the system with highs
expected to be about 20 degrees colder from Wednesday to Thursday.
In fact, temps could be cold enough to support an inch or two of
high elevation snow across the central mountains. Gusty conditions
are likely for Thursday as well with wind advisories possible.

.LONG TERM...Friday through Monday.

Thursday's system will quickly shift to the northeast
escorted away by the upper level jet. In it's wake, southwest flow
will re-develop through the bulk of the extended as east Idaho is
caught between the cutoff upper-level low of the Washington coast
and high pressure back into the central Rockies. Higher than average
confidence in this pattern developing as the mean upper-level flow
setup of the EPS/GEFS are in lockstep with each other and there is
very little variance offered in the WPC Cluster Analysis tool
through very early next week.

What does this mean for upcoming weather and impacts? In short,
hotter and drier conditions are expected to re-establish through
eastern and central Idaho. Southwest flow will favor dry conditions
through the Great Basin, pulling north into eastern Idaho. At the
same time, we may see some impulses of moisture nosing in from the
west that could fuel some diurnally driven showers or thunderstorms
across the higher elevations, primarily in central Idaho.

It should be noted that not only do high temperatures rebound to
above normal over this weekend, several record high temperatures
will be again threatened early next week.

.AVIATION...VFR conditions expected to persist through the duration
of TAF period and into Wednesday, but that doesn't mean quiet
weather will persist. Starting to see moisture increase across the
region and this could fuel additional showers or isolated
thunderstorms near higher terrain Tuesday afternoon. Much of this
activity is currently expected to stay north of SUN and DIJ, but
there is a non-zero chance of a brief impact to those terminal.
Additionally, we'll begin to see afternoon wind increases today,
then again Wednesday into Thursday. Expecting some gusts in the 20-
30kt range for PIH, IDA, and DIJ today. Stronger wind will impact
all terminals Weds and Thurs as surface flow increases ahead of a
system expected to bring showers and storms to the area Thursday.

.FIRE WEATHER...

Breezy conditions are likely over the next couple days with near
critical level humidities likely as well. Fuels are marginal though,
which is holding back any red flag headlines. A passing system will
bring humidities up on Thursday and produce some rainfall for the
Salmon-Challis, but the rest of the region is expected to receive
less than a tenth of an inch.
