Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Little Rock AR 255 PM CDT Wed Apr 14 2021 .SHORT TERM...Tonight Through Friday Data from KLZK radar indicate a few light returns across south central and southeast sections of the forecast area. Satellite imagery and surface observations indicate overcast condtions are currently prevailing across the forecast area. A fast zonal flow will be in place across the mid south during this forecast period. Several waves in this flow will move from west to east during period, and will promote lift on the local atmospheric column to support precipitation development. The first wave is currently supporting activity across western Oklahoma and western north Texas. This feature will support generally light precipitation across the forecast area overnight. Another wave will affect the mid south Thursday night and Friday. This system will have better overall moisture to work with, and should be able to produce more substantial precipitation. Below normal daytime temperatures will prevail during this period. && .LONG TERM...Friday Night Through Wednesday The long term portion of the forecast starts off Fri night, with an upper low moving east quickly across the Plains and a surface low moving SE across the southern Plains. With a good amount of Gulf moisture in place, this will provide chances for showers and thunderstorms Fri night through early Sat morning. High pressure will expand into the area Sat, following this system, and dry conditions are forecast through much of the rest of the period. The next chance for rain will be late Tues into early Wed morning with a cold front approaching from the NW.
