.SYNOPSIS...High pressure will continue to bring seasonable
heat to start June. We will also have just enough moisture for
a chance of mainly afternoon showers and thunderstorms through
most of the week. The best chance of showers and thunderstorms
will be in the mountain ranges east and south of Tucson.

.DISCUSSION...An unseasonably amplified flow over the CONUS, with
a strong ridge near the west coast and troughiness downstream
through the midwest. A weakness left behind by the trough is
cutting off near northern Baja, with the resulting southerly to
easterly flow around this feature importing just enough moisture
for a few showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and early
evening.
The ridge will lose some amplitude as it pushes into the Great
Basin and intermountain west with a reconsolidating storm track
across southern Canada. This along with the weak moisture influx
will keep temperatures from getting crazy, however we will
continue to add to our early season 100 degree total around metro
Tucson. We average 68 per year, but last year we already had 12
under our belt at this point on the way to a record 108. A little
bit of a slower start this year after a skimpy May, with only 3
so far.
As the low finally shifts eastward over the weekend, the easterly
and northeasterly wrap-around flow in its wake may continue to see
thunderstorms in the far eastern mountains even as some drying
tries to push in from the west.

Isolated -SHRA/-TSRA in the higher terrain mainly east of KTUS
with SCT to occasionally BKN clouds 14-18k ft MSL this afternoon.
Surface winds becoming WLY around 10 kts. Higher wind gusts
possible near -TSRA/- SHRA. Aviation discussion not updated for
TAF amendments.

.FIRE WEATHER...Expect a chance of afternoon and early evening
thunderstorm activity mainly in the mountains from near Tucson south
and eastward through at least Friday. Due to dry conditions near
the surface, these storms likely won't be significant rain
producers with dry lightning being a concern. Strong erratic
outflow winds possible near thunderstorms, otherwise wind speeds
mostly remain less than 15 mph with some afternoon gustiness,
becoming more breezy late in the weekend into early next week.
