Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Flagstaff AZ 740 PM MST Fri Apr 2 2021 .SYNOPSIS...Isolated showers over eastern Arizona come to an end around midnight tonight. Very warm and dry weather is then expected through the weekend. Dry conditions continue into the first half of the week with gusty afternoon winds possible Monday through Wednesday. && .UPDATE...A few lingering showers will continue into the evening from the upper level low still in place over central Arizona. The shower activity should come to an end by midnight as the low makes its way into New Mexico overnight, with dry conditions from then onward. A few minor updates were made to PoPs for areas over southern Apache and Navajo counties, otherwise forecast is on track and remains largely unchanged. && .PREV DISCUSSION /125 PM MST/...Very little overall changes were made to the forecast this afternoon as an analysis of ensemble guidance and WPC Clusters shows a pattern of strong high pressure this weekend then gusty winds beginning Monday and into mid-week from a dry trough. A primary concern this weekend will be the first very warm stretch of daytime temperatures from Saturday through Monday. Keep in mind that most central Arizona desert valleys south of the Mogollon Rim and the bottom of the Grand Canyon will be in the upper-80s to mid-90s for daytime high temperatures over the next few days. No heat products are in effect, but remember to drink extra water while out recreating. The anomalously strong ridge of high pressure is progged to exit the Southwest by Monday with a slight drop in daytime temperatures for the following few days. A tightening gradient over Arizona by Monday afternoon will bring a round of gusty southwest winds to much of the region. Kept with elevated winds in the forecast and will monitor for future potential impacts as winds remain gusty and shift more westerly for Tuesday and Wednesday. The tightened gradients are the result of a trough passing well to the north of Arizona so dry conditions persist in the forecast through next Thursday. && .AVIATION...For the 06Z package...VFR conditions are expected to prevail for the duration of the TAF period. Winds remain light and variable overnight and then become mainly westerly around 10 kts for the afternoon. Aviation discussion not updated for TAF amendments. && .FIRE WEATHER...Isolated dry thunderstorms and showers over high terrain areas this afternoon to decrease in coverage this evening. Wind gusts up to 40 mph are possible in the vicinity of any dry thunderstorms. Very warm temperatures and dry conditions will occur Saturday and Sunday. .Monday through Wednesday...Well above normal temperatures continue Monday and cool slightly Tuesday.
