.SHORT TERM [Rest of Today through Friday]...
Concerns: Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms, with the
potential of severe thunderstorms. Main hazards with these strong
storms will be hail, strong damaging winds, lightning and heavy
rainfall. Potential for tornadic activity is very low (2 percent),
but cannot be discarded completely. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has
been issued for all counties, except Matagorda, Galveston, Brazoria
and Chambers counties, and is in effect through 10 PM CDT tonight.
Strong storms have been moving southeastward across central TX these
past few hours and have been gradually intensifying. Surface
observations have observed strong winds and intense lightning with
these thunderstorms. This activity is expected to increase in
coverage and intensity as a cold front moves into the southern TX
and taps into the unstable air mass in place. The front, along with
the strong showers and thunderstorms, is currently moving into
the northernmost counties and is expected to reach the central
counties by around 6 to 8 PM CDT and the coastal counties around 9
to 11 PM CDT. The front should slow down slightly as it
progresses south into the central areas of the CWA, thus, areas of
moderate to heavy rainfall could be ongoing for several hours
across these locations. This will increase the chance for
localized urban and small stream flooding. SPC Day 1 Outlook
continues with an Enhanced Risk over much of the central and
northern portions of the CWA with a Slight Risk across the rest of
SE TX. WPC also has a Slight Risk of Excessive Rainfall for much
of the area along and north of I-10. Conditions will improve
starting from the NW tonight as a drier and more stable air mass
filters behind the front and over the rest of the region overnight
into early Friday morning. The cooler air mass behind the front
will allow for temperatures to lower to the 60s overnight with
high temperatures topping off in the low 70s Friday afternoon.

.LONG TERM [Saturday Through Thursday]...
The region will be impacted by multiple frontal passages this
weekend. On Saturday, the GFS has a boundary moving northward
through the region bringing showers and thunderstorms. However, the
EC and Canadian are much weaker with the boundary thus bringing less
precipitation into the area during the day on Saturday. While the
guidance isn't in great agreement for the boundary on Saturday, they
are in pretty good agreement of a cold front moving through the
region Sunday morning bringing with is showers and thunderstorms.
The SPC does highlight a Slight Risk of severe thunderstorms
developing late Saturday night into early Sunday morning as there
across the area. The main threat with these storms will be strong
winds and hail. Most of the precipitation moves out to the east by
noon Sunday, then a reinforcing cold front quickly moves into the
area Sunday night ushering in a period of cooler and drier
conditions next week. The rest of the long term period will feature
fairly pleasant weather with mostly clear skies and high
temperatures in the low to mid 70s thanks to surface high pressure
across the southern US.

A cold front will enter the Gulf waters shortly before midnight
bringing a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms
may bring hail and gusty winds. Moderate to strong northeasterly
flow begins tonight after the front approaching caution flag
criteria then into advisory criteria Friday morning. Winds decrease
Friday evening but four to six foot seas will continue through the
night. There is a Seas decrease Saturday with the flow becoming
southeasterly, but a second cold front moves through Sunday morning
ushering in offshore flow. Another cold front moves through late
Sunday into early Monday continuing this offshore flow. High
astronomical tides combined with the strong onshore flow will result
in the threat of some minor beach flooding Friday night into
Saturday afternoon.
