Latest surface analysis shows a surface trough moving through the region with isolated showers and thunderstorms evident in satellite imagery. Buoys show seas between 3 and 5 feet across the region. && .Discussion... The trough moving through the region tonight will continue to spark isolated thunderstorms along with a small increase in showers overnight. By Saturday, though, have made a few forecast adjustments to reflect a slightly drier forecast, keeping showers isolated through the weekend and through next week. An upper-level low to the east is expected to move westward over the region this weekend and will support some short-lived thunderstorms into Sunday, but the lack of any surface-based convective mechanisms suggests the overall weather should be fairly pleasant. A benign trade-wind pattern will set up over the region early next week before moisture edges back into the region from the south as weak disturbances move westward through Micronesia. && .Marine... Seas of 3 to 5 feet will persist through the weekend gradually increasing to between 4 and 6 feet Monday and Tuesday as a trade-wind pattern becomes more firmly entrenched over the area. && .Eastern Micronesia... The combination of an active ITCZ and surface trough will bring scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms to Pohnpei and Kosrae tonight. The cross-equatorial flow will end by Saturday and this will allow showers to decrease at these two locations. A surface trough moving across the Date Line will bring scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms to Majuro Saturday and Saturday night. This trough will weaken as it moves westward, but activity associated with it will briefly increase and bring scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms to Pohnpei Monday. && .Western Micronesia... A surface trough brought scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms to Palau and Yap today. The trough has moved west of these two locations and taken much of the showers with it. The trough is, however, close enough to keep clouds and showers over Palau and Yap. A few thunderstorms are also possible tonight at Yap. Another surface trough will push across the western half of Micronesia and bring scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms to Yap Saturday night through Sunday and to Palau Sunday and Sunday night. A repeat of this activity will occur Tuesday and Wednesday at Yap and Wednesday over Palau as yet another surface trough will bring scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Models show the ITCZ becoming active near Chuuk and this will bring scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms to that location Saturday night and again on Monday and Tuesday. && .GUM WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... Kapingamarangi did decrease to the Moderate Drought (D1) level in the month but increased again to Severe Drought (D2). Observers on Kapingamarangi report household water tanks are 10% of capacity and some are empty. Some of the community water tanks have been tapped. Vegetation has started yellowing. Rainfall at Kapingamarangi was 28% of normal.
Wotje went from Extreme Drought (D3) to Severe Drought (D2). Recent heavy rainfall has resulted in improved drought conditions at Wotje and Utirik.
