Expect mainly VFR conditions through the period as drier air

scattered clouds and light winds through Sunday.

PREV DISCUSSION... /Issued 343 PM CDT Sat Aug 31 2019/

SHORT TERM (Tonight through Sunday Night)...

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms continue this
afternoon across the Coastal Bend and Brush Country. Will expect
activity to wane this evening with the loss of heating. Drier air
will begin to move in on Sunday limiting convection, but moisture
in the low levels may be sufficient enough for showers to develop
under the cap. Not expecting a lot of coverage as showers should
be very sporadic in development with focus mainly over the
coastal plains. Most locations should remain rather dry due to the
sporadic development. That said, maintained less than 20 POPs,
but added wording for showers. Models hint at a mid-level vort max
to move through central portions of Texas Sunday which should
kick off some showers/thunderstorms. It is with the southwest
movement of this system that a few of those showers/storms may
clip the western zones across the Brush Country for Sunday night.
With the bulk of the activity expected to remain to the north,
maintained only 10 POPs across the west for Sunday night.

Lows tonight and Sunday night should range near seasonal normal,
with lows in the low to mid 70s inland, and near 80 degrees along
the immediate coast. Highs for Sunday will be warm in the mid to
upper 90s for most inland areas, with highs near 90 degrees along
the immediate coast. Heat index values should remain below 105
degrees Sunday, although a isolated location may briefly reach 105
degrees at times.

LONG TERM (Monday through Saturday)...

A broad area of low pressure will move across the southwest Gulf of
Mexico. The National Hurricane Center has indicated a 20 percent
chance of this developing into a tropical cyclone over the next five
days. The forecast hinges heavily on this, so confidence in PoPs is
low to moderate. If the system develops into a tropical system,
moisture will likely stay to the south of the area; however, if it
does not develop, precipitation is likely across the waters and
there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms across the
majority of the area. For this forecast, have elected to keep higher
PoPs across the area, with slightly lower PoPs over the
northern/northwestern most counties.

Temperatures will also be dependent on the track of the low across
the southwestern Gulf; however, plan on keeping high temperatures a
bit lower through the period, with highs generally in the low to mid
90s through Friday, then increasing to near 100 for Saturday. While
the actual temperatures are a bit lower, the return of tropical
moisture will result in maximum afternoon heat index values of 102
to 109 for much of the area.

MARINE...

Weak southeasterly winds tonight will become northeasterly on
Sunday. Much drier conditions are expected for Sunday, although
a few isolated showers will be possible in the morning.

A disorganized area of low pressure is expected to move across the
southwestern Gulf of Mexico Monday through Wednesday generating
scattered showers and thunderstorms. The National Hurricane Center
has indicated a 20 percent chance of this developing into a tropical
cyclone over the next five days. Regardless of development, moisture
will return to the area, allowing the chance for some isolated to
scattered showers and thunderstorms through Saturday.
