Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Brownsville TX 631 AM CDT Mon May 6 2019 .DISCUSSION...Updated for latest aviation discussion below. && .AVIATION...Very few changes to the previous set of TAFs. But the most significant change that occurred was to add a TEMPO for overnight convection tonight. VFR to MVFR will be the rule through the next 24 hours. && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 420 AM CDT Mon May 6 2019/ ..Marginal risk of severe weather across portions of deep south Texas today through tonight... SHORT TERM (Now through Tuesday): The main threat in this portion of the forecast continues to be convection. The Storm Prediction Center places all or a vast majority of the BRO CWFA in a Marginal Risk of severe weather today and tonight and Tuesday, respectively. The Center states that the main severe weather threats will be large hail and damaging winds, and as a result, these threats have been added to the official forecast for Deep South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley. Additionally, with precipitable water values steadily increasing to around 2 inches, have also opted to mention heavy rain in the forecast in addition to the hail and wind. All of this adverse weather is the result of a series of mid-level disturbances riding within a southwest-to- northeast 500 mb flow. Significant cloud cover overhead, in addition to the relatively high chance of rain, will combine to produce daytime high and overnight low temperatures at near normal levels through the next 36 hours. LONG TERM (Tuesday Night through Sunday): Low to mid level moisture will remain high across most of the state Tuesday as a 500mb shortwave trough moves portions of central and south Texas. A marginal risk of severe weather will continue across most of the CWA Tues night per the latest SPC day2 outlook. The threat of severe weather will diminish across deep south Texas Wednesday as the bulk of the convection shifts northward across the northern and eastern portions of the state. A broad 500mb trough across the western United States Wednesday is expected to elongate and become positively-tilted across the southwest U.S. Thursday. Across south Texas...the global models differ on thunderstorms developing either across portions of southwest Texas or southeast Texas Thursday depending on whether you believe the GFS on the former or the ECMWF on the latter. At the surface...a weak cold front is progged to move into central Texas Thursday and into south Texas Friday. This boundary should provide a focus for low level convergence across south Texas through the rest of the week into the weekend as the front possibly moves into deep south Texas and stalls Friday into Saturday. Rain chances will develop Thursday and continue through the rest of the forecast period with low to mid level moisture remaining high across south Texas through Sunday. MARINE (Now through Tuesday): Buoy 42020 reported east-southeast winds around 14 knots gusting to around 18 knots with seas slightly over 3.5 feet with a period of 7 seconds at 250 CDT/750 UTC. Generally moderate winds and seas continue to be expected along the Lower Texas Coast during the period with a modest pressure gradient in place. However, seas may build tonight and Tuesday enough that a Small Craft Exercise Caution may need to be considered for the Gulf of Mexico waters between 20 and 60 nautical miles offshore. Tuesday night through Friday...Moderate to strong east to southeast winds will prevail across the coastal waters Tues night before veering more to the southeast Wednesday and diminishing slightly as the pressure gradient across the lower Texas coast Tues night weakens slightly Wednesday. Moderate southeast winds should prevail across the western Gulf of Mexico with low pressure across the southern plains and high pressure across the eastern U.S. coast. A weak cold front is expected to move into central Texas Thursday and into south Texas Friday. Moderate southeast winds across the coastal waters Thursday should diminish Thurs night into Friday and back to the east as a result. strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 11 miles west of
Las Palmas to 14 miles west of Falcon Dam. Movement was east at 20
to 25 mph.
Half inch hail and winds in excess of 30 mph will be possible with
these storms.

Zapata, Rio Grande City, Roma, Escobares, El Sauz, Lopeno, La Rosita,
Viboras, Bustamante and Medina.
