Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Miami FL 345 PM EST Tue Jan 1 2019 ...WARM CONDITIONS THROUGH END OF THE WEEK BEFORE COOLING DOWN SOME FOR THE FIRST WEEKEND OF 2019... .DISCUSSION... High pressure over the Western Atlantic Waters will continue to remain in place while extending westward into the Florida Peninsula through Wednesday. This will keep the weather mostly dry over South Florida along with an easterly wind flow. There could be a few showers over the western areas of South Florida late this afternoon into early this evening, due to the sea breeze collisions but the rainfall amounts will be light. High pressure will then weaken on Thursday into Friday, as low pressure develops over the Southern Gulf Coast states and moves northeast into the Southeastern United States. This will allow for the wind flow to become more southerly over South Florida late this week bringing in some low level moisture to the area. Therefore, slight chance to low end chance of showers will continue over South Florida for late this week. Temperatures will also remain above average over South Florida through late this week with highs in the mid to upper 80s and lows in the 60, except lower 70s over the east coast metro areas. The heat index readings could even get to around 90 on Thursday over South Florida. Fog is also possible again late tonight over the interior and west coast metro areas due to the increase moisture and light winds. Some area could even see patchy dense fog late tonight into early Wednesday morning. .EXTENDED FORECAST... The low will continue to move northeast from the Southeastern United States into the Mid Atlantic States this weekend allowing for a cold front associated with the low to move southward and through South Florida on Saturday. The front will then be south of the region on Sunday, as high pressure builds into the region from the north for early next week. The cold front will bring in some showers to South Florida for Saturday, but no threat of thunderstorms due to lack of deeper moisture. Drier air will then work into the region for late this weekend into early next week over South Florida. Therefore, the weather should remain dry over the region for late this weekend into early next week. Temperatures will also cool down behind the front to more near normal conditions for this time of year. Highs should be in the 70s with lows in the 50s, except 60s over the east coast metro areas. The only exception to this is over the areas west of Lake Okeechobee Saturday night where the lows will be in the upper 40s. && .MARINE... The winds will be easterly at 15 knots or less through Wednesday night before swinging to a southerly direction late this week. This will keep the seas at 4 feet or less in both the Atlantic and Gulf waters through end of the week. Hendry County EM reports a 40 acre wildfire in Glades County just north of La Belle. There were no reported injuries or evacuations. FFS Okeechobee District was on-scene and reported that the fire was fully contained. Two uninhabited mobile homes were damaged by the fire.
