Updated aviation discussion

.SHORT TERM...Morning Update...A wave rotating around the bottom of
an upper trough over western Canada will swing across the Pacific
Northwest today and this evening. There is limited moisture with
this wave, thus conditions will remain dry with only a few thin high
clouds. Low level onshore flow will continue through tonight. Thus
high temps will again be near to slightly below seasonal, running in
the mid to upper 80s at the lower elevations. Winds will be lighter
than yesterday, but still locally breezy through the Gorge and in
the Kittitas valley. Overall the forecast package is on track. Main
update, beyond a few high temp and wind adjustments, focused on
reducing mention of patchy smoke from area wildfires. 90

.AVIATION...18Z TAFs...VFR conditions will continue through the
period.  Smoke from area fires may reduce visibilities at KYKM
during the afternoon but should remain VFR. Skies will remain clear.
Winds will be 7-11 kts with higher gusts in the afternoon, except
KDLS 12-16 kts with higher gusts in the afternoon.  Winds will

.LONG TERM...Previous Discussion...There are subtle differences in
the heights of the 500mb pressure surface, higher in the 00Z ECMWF
run, and lower in the 00Z GFS and Canadian models runs. The GFS
model shows an influx of monsoon moisture into central and east
central Oregon Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night. As such I
have a slight chance of afternoon/evening thunderstorms for Tuesday
afternoon/evening in central and east central Oregon with a slight
chance of showers in Grant County overnight before daybreak on
Wednesday. Otherwise, all the models show persistent dry conditions
through the period. Daytime high temperatures at lower elevations
will be 90-101, warmest in the Columbia Basin. Lows temperatures at
lower elevations will be in the mid 50s to mid 60s.
