Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 915 PM PDT Fri Apr 13 2018 .SYNOPSIS...Quiet and warmer weather can be expected Saturday before the next storm begins to affect the region Sunday. Winds will increase Sunday and especially Monday, and temperatures will be well below normal Monday and especially Tuesday. Chances for rain and snow Monday and Monday night will remain north of Las Vegas. && .UPDATE...North winds have largely abated across most of the region. The Wind Advisory and Red Flag Warning for the Colorado River Valley and Mohave County were allowed to expire at 7 pm. Gusts of 15-20 mph were noted at some sites across southern Nevada and northwest Arizona prone to north-northeast winds and these areas will see speeds generally 10-20 mph through Saturday morning then winds will become light by the afternoon. This is indicated in the going forecast and no immediate changes are needed. -Adair && .PREV DISCUSSION... 238 PM PDT Fri Apr 13 2018 Surface pressure gradients were beginning to relax across our area this afternoon, so winds should follow suit this evening. After a quiet day Saturday under high pressure with temperatures much closer to mid April normals, another storm will approach the Pacific Northwest Sunday. Southwest winds will begin to increase by the afternoon, which will help push temperatures several degrees above normal. As the storm rolls through the PacNW Sunday night and Monday, sufficient moisture and forcing will reach the Sierra and the southern Great Basin to bring chances for rain and snow. Snow levels start out above 8000 feet in the warm sector, then crash down to below 4000 feet by Monday night as precip chances end. The bigger impacts will likely be from wind Monday into Monday night, as a belt of strong west to southwest winds traverses the Mojave Desert. This will likely require widespread Wind Advisories and perhaps High Wind Warnings for a few zones. The active Spring pattern is likely to continue late in the week, as the models agree on the existence (but not the strength, track, or timing) of another storm Thursday or Friday. && .FIRE WEATHER...Critical fire weather conditions may return to parts of the region Monday as another storm brings strong winds. && .AVIATION...For McCarran...Winds will remain light northerly overnight with light and variable conditions after 12z. Northeast to possibly southeast winds are expected Saturday, but speeds are expected to remain less than 8 kts.
