part, perhaps becoming a little breezy Tuesday afternoon across
western Oklahoma. VFR conditions will prevail.

DISCUSSION...
Numerous thunderstorms have developed across the eastern Texas
panhandle this afternoon. These thunderstorms are making very slow
progress eastward and may affect far western north Texas
(Foard/Hardeman counties) late this afternoon/early evening
before dissipating. Otherwise, only a very low chance of storms
in other parts of western north Texas. Expect dry conditions
elsewhere.
Hot temperatures are expected the next couple days as a 595 dam
mid-level ridge remains centered across the Southern Plains.
Expect high temperatures in the upper 90Fs to low 100Fs for
Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. Rather humid conditions (dew
points in the upper 60Fs to mid-70Fs) will result in heat indices
>105F at some locations. Therefore, opted to issue a heat advisory
for locations along and east of Hwy 81.
By Thursday, the mid-level ridge is expected to shift westward as
a mid/upper-level trough amplifies across the Great Lakes. The
attendant cold front associated with the trough is expected to
pass by the northern half of Oklahoma on Thursday with a chance
of showers and thunderstorms. Hot temperatures are still expected
Thursday afternoon, especially from I-40 southward; however,
cooler air is expected across northwest Oklahoma.
The cold front is expected to become diffuse and stall near the
Red River on Friday with a continued chance of showers/storms. As
the remnant boundary begins to lift northward and isentropic
ascent increases, scattered showers/storms will remain possible
through the weekend--primarily across western/southern Oklahoma
and north Texas.
The mid/upper-level trough is forecast to amplify further and
close off across the eastern Contiguous United States this
weekend. Consequently, the Plains will be placed within northerly
flow aloft with a high-amplitude ridge across the western
Contiguous United States. This will be favorable pattern for
cooler, more seasonable temperatures into early next week.
