Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Missoula MT 227 PM MDT Wed Aug 24 2016 .DISCUSSION...A relatively cool northwest flow with a little below normal temperatures is expected into Friday. Local frost is also expected in the higher valleys (typical cold spots) of western Montana and north central Idaho. Weak weather disturbances will also occasionally shift across the area with the main shower threat along the Continental Divide. A drier and warmer westerly flow is expected to develop over the weekend with temperatures returning to near normal values. There is a fair amount of uncertainty next week, but the models are generally showing a trough of low pressure developing over the Northwest U.S. Although models are not depicting a lot of moisture yet, the pattern does support a slight increase in the precipitation threat. As such we have started to trend the precipitation probabilities upward. && .AVIATION...Showers will remain in the vicinity of KGPI, KMSO, and KBTM into the evening. A person from the public observed a prominent dust devil in northern Missoula. It formed ahead of showers that were tracking south to north in a very unstable environment. No damage was reported.
